Warwick Mansell is a freelance education journalist. He has been writing about education policy
since 1997, and currently runs the subscription website Education Uncovered. He has covered most
aspects of education policymaking, during a career which started in local news, before he spent nine
years as a reporter at the Times Educational Supplement. As a freelancer since 2009, reporting and
feature-writing jobs have included writing the Guardian’s education diary for five years. As a
freelancer he has also worked for organisations including the British Educational Research
Association, the Royal Society and the British Academy, communicating the findings of academics
and research to the public.

He published a book on the pressures on schools over results in 2007, and was co-author of a book
published in 2024, on teacher education. He was shortlisted for the Private Eye Paul Foot award for
investigative journalism in 2008. His current interests include the interaction between schools and
their local communities, and students’ experiences in education.

Warwick is married with two children, one of whom attends Prendergast School.
